Dare Diane Barber or Dare Nolan Barber those are the perfect names for my son, Tanner's future first born. As I see it the name Dare will work for his son or daughter. Now Tanner has given me grey hair for the past 24 years, so when his fatherhood years arrive why not push this little darling out into the world with a name that no doubt will fit his actions.
Tanner began bumping into life early, with his 2 newly grown front teeth knocked out within weeks of their arrival. This little man never slowed down and broke more bones than my other 3 children combined. That total can be accomplished even without including the multiple bones he broke when he fell 80 feet off a vertical cliff into flames. Yes, he has earned a child named Dare.
I could write a whole entry just on his trampoline injuries. Let's see, he planted his teeth in Ryan's scalp, broke his thumb in 2 places while trampoline wrestling, and I don't even know what injuries he incurred from jumping out the 2nd story window onto the trampoline. He hid those pretty well! In fact, I wouldn't have clued into the window leaps except he didn't think to move the tramp back into the middle of the yard. See I was paying attention!
Now, I do apologize to his wife. the mother of his children, and will pray for her continuously. If her offspring take after their innocent looking father, she is in for a frequent flyer pass to the ER. Tanner believed with all his being that he not only needed to perform the JackAss stunts seen on TV and movies but that he should create his own originals to perform as well.
Silly me thought that as adulthood came into focus he would slow down but last year he fell 10 feet while bouldering and impaled himself on a tree limb to the thigh. Although it missed the bone it was an impressive puncture wound that required quite the irrigation feat and antibiotics. My little man and lovable son has logged his share of hours in the ER, ambulances, and with his favorite docs. His current Facebook profile picture is of him doing a backflip off a cliff into a murky pool of water. That is certainly not the most comforting photo for his mother.
It was no surprise that Tanner has decided to become an EMT and eventually a paramedic. After all, we tend to do what is familiar to us. The great news is, he will know just what to do when his future kiddo , Dare, decides to Go For It, Live Life Outloud, or Just Do It! I could pray for him to have a little couch potato but what fun would that be?
In Him,
Joyful
