Lay Your Head Down Sweet Baby Millie

When you are so, so tired but you just don’t want to lay down. Millie kept falling asleep standing up in her crib and just couldn’t bring herself to lay her sweet head down. I am not sure what she thought she had to do standing there. But she was surely not going to surrender to sleep. But sleep captured her regardless.

Sometimes we get so busy rushing through tasks that we fight against the pause. The truth is when we allow ourselves to take a rest and recharge we actually can accomplish more. Our ‘to do’ list is never ending. There is always two things to add as you check off the one job you just finished. Rest will never come if we wait to sit down or lay down until we are finished. So why do we have a need to stay upright in our crib or in our bed rather than giving in to the rest we require? We are a task oriented society. Nobody wants to be perceived as lazy. But it isn’t lazy to sit down and read a book or take an afternoon nap with your head on an actual pillow. Lately, I have been taking naps and I take off my clothes and get into my comfy jammies. Then I rest. When I wake up I am refreshed and get on with my day. I am retired and sixty-six so I have way more time than a mom with wee ones or a full time employee. But it is crucial for all of us to pause and refuel. You might not get a whole day of rest but Gramma Peabody was terrific at laying on the floor, feet up on the couch, and taking a ten minute refresh. It was amazing who she popped up and got back to it.

Just lay down, sit down, rest and pause. It isn’t shirking your responsibilities but making your accomplishing them even more efficient. Besides our pillows are so very soft. Wait sweet Millie is an eleven month old in. 2022. She doesn’t have a pillow. Hmmmmmmm. Still that crib rail can’t be more comfortable than her mattress.

In Him,

Joyful
