Now I have an idea…….Yesteday, I drove to meet a friend at Ojo Caliente Hot Springs. I packed my swimsuit, towel and bathrobe before heading out on my one hour drive. When I realized I was going to be a few minutes late in arriving, I reached for my phone to check in. No phone connected is what my car informed me. Oh no! How could I have left my phone at home? What if I have a flat tire? What if someone needs a ride to the hospital? What if someone has some juicy gossip? What if I must spend a few minutes playing solitaire? How was I going to spend an entire day without communication from my ever present handheld device?
Fast forward to the end of the day…..I survived barely. What became fascinating is that a few of my friends thought I was angry at them since I wasn’t responding and one thought something was terribly wrong since she knew I was going to hot springs but my alerts showed I was still at home. After all, it is assumed that wherever my phone is is where I am as well. Thankfully, my friend let me use her phone to call Ron and Jenn when he didn’t answer. Those are the only two numbers I have in my computer brain. The rest are tucked securely in my ever present companion.
The rest of the day was eventful. It was just one of those days that I could see would have three ‘oh no that didn’t happen moments.’ I left in the dark to meet Lydia so I turned on my headlights in Fancy Pants my new toy car/Miata. When I arrived the sun was shining. Yes. I left my lights on and killed my battery. As I drove home after thanking Ojo’s maintenance men for jumping my car, I considered what would be the third oops of the day. By then the warmth of the sun made it possible to ride with the roof down and let the wind whip through my hot springs hairdo. It was a quiet trip since my phone was still at home on the table. To put the lid up on my convertible you have to have the car in neutral. So I accomplished the task and got out of the car only to have it roll forward. I jumped back into the car to put it in park. The food box with leftover lunch enchiladas fell in my seat and I sat hard on them as I landed. Luckily, the car rolled into a bucket that was beside the house and came to a stop. Otherwise, I would not only be looking at repairing my front bumper but also our carport wall.
Looking back on my phone free day lets me know that I can survive without my phone. It also tells me that if someone doesn’t answer it may not be that they are ignoring me but perhaps, God forbid, they don’t have their communication device with them. By the way, the enchiladas survived and Ronnie B still enjoyed them and the box was closed so I didn’t wear the red and green chile of my Christmas lunch.
In Him,
Joyful
