Now, this Noni was not too smart that day I will admit. 1st I gave her gum, and toddlers should definitely not chew gum. Being a warm summer day, when she started to play with the gum it got everywhere. The stickiness was all over Lis and rapidly spreading all over me. Cleverly, I took us both to the car to get the melting ice out of our soda cups. My hope was that ice would harden the gum, and then I could wipe it into the nearest trash can.
Then, Miss Lis began to complain. I had promised her that we were going to see animals, and she was not too happy to be heading back to the car without seeing them! My explanation didn't help much, and the gum was spreading into her hair and both our clothes. BOTHER!
I grabbed the ice which didn't help, and off we went to try a 2nd time to see the animals. When we got to the donkey pen he was as excited to see us as Lis was to see him. She put her sweet, gum covered hands through the boards to pet him before I realized what a bad idea that was. Donkey hair and gum now covered my granddaughter's hands. This was the last straw for Lis. She looked down at her hands and began to rub them together frantically. "Get that donkey hair off my hands!" This was not a request or a suggestion. This was a demand!
That was the last straw for me. I picked her up and while bursting into laughter twirled her around, hugging her tight, gum and all. We would deal with the gooey, hairy mess later. Right then I just wanted to enjoy holding this adorable little girl. My laughter turned her worry into laughter, and we shared an amazing moment. Of course, the donkey hair eventually was scrubbed off her hands as well as the rest of us, but the memory will live in my heart forever.
Okay, it has been almost 3 years, and I still think my steering wheel has a sticky place or 2 on it. But what better way to get donkey hair in your car?
In Him,
Joyful
