'My birfday March 2nd!' Ryan just loved his birthday. Sharing a birthday with Dr. Seuss made it even more special. Across our country kids at elementary schools dress up as his famous characters and celebrate reading. Just an extremely fun day each year. When Ry was little he was convinced that his 'birfday' was more special than anyone else's because of all this hoopla.
This year, kids are already abuzz with which character they are going to be and how they are going to transform themselves into those unusual beings. Some will be the Cat in the Hat of course, but others will choose to be the Grinch, Yertle the Turtle, a Zook, or even Sam I Am. A couple years ago Jenn and I dressed up as Thing 1 and Thing 2 for Halloween. We may need to dust off our suits for this year's March 2nd festivities.
Kids come to school all crazied up, or staff, led by Jenn, are waiting in the gym with hair spray, colorful pipe cleaners, and rubber bands to transform kids into zany characters from Seuss's much loved stories. This is a day of fun and learning when we can combine a love for reading with creative chaos. The Souza led student council members will have a few fun tricks up there sleeves to make the day even more exciting.
So glad my son shares a day where it is impossible to dwell on sadness with all the joy and live filling my school and my day. I am blessed to be in a job I love surrounded by children and staff I adore. No one knows how much their smiles and hugs really mean to me because my words are not enough to express the comfort they give.
I will retreat to my room when I need to this year and enjoy the overflowing happiness the rest of the day. Ryan should be 25 March 2nd, but the 24 'birfdays' he had were always filled with friends and fun.
Happy birthday, Scooter and happy birthday, Dr. Seuss!
In Him,
Joyful
