One Long Day and a Criminal Summons

Some days are those long days that you just don't think will ever end. Today was one of those days. It is so hard to not engage students who are just off. What our goal is in getting through these upsetting days is to assure our student that tomorrow is a new day and a fresh start. No grudges, no held over consequences just a new beginning.

We all need that sort of 'do over'. Although as we become adults there are often consequences that reach beyond the end of the day.  It is important to face the circumstances, do what needs to be done and get past it. Yesterday, Ron got a 'criminal summons' from our Municipal Court. WHAT?! Ron and I don't get criminal summons. Our rental house has bushes that are extending onto the sidewalk and so there is a court date set. Can't we just trim the bushes and call it good? Apparently not is what the letter said.

The truth is whether we are middle school age or adults we need to take care of business and then forgive ourselves as well as forgiving others. It doesn't do any good to ignore summons or dwell on past mistakes. Life is too short to fret about the small stuff. I just hope they don't handcuff Ron since it would be even harder to trim the bushes with his hands behind his back.

In Him,

  1. A criminal summons for bushes growing onto a sidewalk? I can find hundreds of examples of that in our town. How crazy to fill up the court rooms with cases like that. No handcuffs for Ron please.

  2. I am finally getting to read this post I have seen in my list. I cannot help but laugh, although I know you are not laughing. I agree Terra of all the things need taking care of this is nonsense.
