After 24 years of marriage, 4 adoptions, and a million miles in our 1975 yellow camper van, Ron and I separated. Although we still had dinners together, went to church and on trips together, we lived in 2 separate houses. Our perfect family was horribly broken.
Our kids, though supportive of both of us, were too close to the sadness. Their lives were torn apart.
My Young Life girls and I were praying 3 word prayers for each other. Mine was easy. UNDER ONE ROOF! All I ever wanted was to be back with the love of my life. God knows where we went off track, but He was the only one who could get us back to the love and respect we needed for each other.
Those middle school girls prayed continuously. PUSH: Pray Until Something Happens. They went to church each Sunday and sat with Ron and I, wrote on the prayer cards, and texted me: UNDER ONE ROOF.
God is good! After 6 years in 2 houses, Ron and I got UNDER ONE ROOF. We are told to be thankful in all things. Now that we have been back UNDER ONE ROOF for 2 years, I am thankful for the separation. I would never have wished for it, but it brought us to here. It is a part of our life story together. We both learned so much!
Life UNDER ONE ROOF is better than I ever thought it could be. My best friend and husband and I are where we couldn't have been without the separation. Walking hand in hand with a smile into our sunset years.
In Him,
Joyful
