The Winnebago Slide

"Where do you want to go? "
"I don't care where do you want to go?"
" I don't care, somewhere warm?"
"As long as we leave today!"

That was the conversation we had after Logan's birthmother came and took him from our home to hers. I played the Crystal Gayle song, Somebody Loves You, over and over again. We told all our family and friends not to contact us, that we would contact them when we were ready. So far we had just stood and clung to each other, numb! Then we dried our tears, blew our noses, washed our faces and went to a travel agent. We needed to get out of our house full of baby smells. Even driving to the agent, we were both painfully aware of the empty car seat in the back.

The agent looked baffled that we were there to depart on a trip with no plans. Leaving today was our greatest requirement. Unfortunately, it was spring break and today's departure was just not going to happen. But we could get to Cancun tomorrow. Lovely!

So we decided to head into San Fransisco to get some maps and books about Cancun at a downtown shop. As we were driving in crazy big city traffic, a Winnabago changed into our lane. Well, believe me we could not both occupy the same space. Our car started moving slow but steady to the right. Which was just not right! I started hollering at Ron that that Winnabago was hitting us. Ummm...he was aware and told me so! Well, we learned quickly that urban cops don't stop unless someone is bleeding or has missing limbs. So we exchanged information and drove away in our slightly twisted vehicle.

When we returned home that evening we decided it was time to call our families and friends and let them know we were going to Cancun and were surviving Logan's departure. More Crystal Gayle in the background. I just wished somewhere deep inside he would have a sense of how much he was loved those 1st 2 months of life.

Talking to our parents, we told them we were hit by a Winnebago. They were still processing the loss of our son and told us they understood that it must feel like we had been hit by a Winnebago or a Mac truck. No, we really were hit by a Winnebago. Finally, it sunk in.
What an unbelievable day!

In Him,
Joyful

It's been a long time since you went away
I stop to think of you most ev'ry day
With all my heart, I'm hopin' you're okay
Guess who loves you
Somebody loves you
I do.
