At 6:30 Saturday morning, while my house is all quiet and everyone else is asleep, I grab my cup of tea and sit to talk to my sister. Teri lives in Arizona but she and I try to meet each Saturday to recap each other's week. A few years ago she gave me a cup that says, 'my sister, my friend.' I love my cup and use it every Saturday when I sit down for our chat.
This has been a marvelous time for us to connect and touch each others lives. Our kids are all grown and most have kids of their own. We grew up as the only 2 kids in the family. So there is always a lot to reminisce about. Teri works at a middle school and I work at an elementary school so we have that in common too. She also lives right next door to our mom and I am jealous of the time they get to spend together. So each week, we sit down in our most comfortable chairs with our warm drinks and talk about work, mom, grandkids, or whatever comes up. The routine of our early morning conversations is something I look forward to all week. Sitting down to catch up with my sister
We didn't always make this time for each other. For years, while raising our families, life was so busy and we were both running in every direction. Life was hectic with hauling kids to practices, monitoring sleepovers, washing mountains of clothes, and just the chores of being moms to our kids. Now that life has calmed a bit, we make Saturday mornings special by spending it together, while 500 miles apart. The rest of the week we hop up, pretty up, and head off to work each day. But Saturday early mornings are ours. While our husbands catch a few extra zzzzzs, Teri and I laugh and share our lives with each other.
I thank God for the connection our weekly talks have given me with my sister. I only have one sister and I am so glad she is also my friend and confidante.
In Him,
Joyful
