Excitement and Patent Leather

New backpacks, shiny shoes, and hair done up just so. Ah, the first day of school at elementary schools around this great country of ours. Parents going into work late so they can get those precious pictures of their proud little students with their new teachers and classmates.

This is why we are educators! Not for the paychecks that are shamefully low, but for the opportunity to make a difference in little ones lives. The tests will come and the lessons will be learned, but the real impact of a teacher is the chance to teach each child that they are unique and amazing just the way they are.

On this day, the 1st day, it is about the kids. Parents put aside their worries and woes and just beam at the anticipation of a new year. Their hopes for their kiddos shine from their faces. These photographs that are now posted on Facebook to instantly share their pride with everyone, will be treasured throughout the years. Let us, as teachers, use this day to reach out and bring out the very best from each of these little gifts that cross our classroom doors.

In Him,
Joyfully Enthusiastic
