Football season starts today. Ah, it is worth the wait. So, I have decided there are 2 types of fans in football as well as in life. The fan that stays loyal to his team no matter what the win/lose looks like or who the players are on the team. Then there is the fan who hops from team to team because of the win/lose totals or because his favorite player moves to a new team. Which are you?
It is also interesting how people pick the team that they are going to go nuts supporting. By nuts, I mean they buy and wear the gear; jersey, hat, shoes, decorate their houses, garages, and cars. Most people support the team that is geographically closest to them. This is great unless you have to move a lot. It also makes sense if you want to attend or watch the games. Most channels show the teams that are local or close to you. For us in New Mexico where there are no professional sports teams, the teams we see weekly are the Cowboys and the Broncos. So most people root for 1 of these 2 teams.
Personally, I have been a Seahawks fan since they came to be in 1976 while I was in college. Since I had never watched football, I had to come up with a criteria for choosing MY team. Being a female fan, I decided to pick my team based on the most crucial detail, the quarterback with the nicest derrier! Yep, that is how I became a lifelong Seahawks fan. My decision was all based on the pleasant backside of Mr. Jim Zorn.
Since I have been a fan for over 3 decades and my team has not won a superbowl yet, I may need to consider how I should have chosen my team! Hindsight like hind ends can be 20/20 but it is too late to change teams now. Odds are in our favor that 1 day we will not only go back to the Superbowl but actually win it.
In life, like in football we are faced with choices. Do we continue on the same path if things are not working out, or do we jump ship and start on a new path? What are our criteria for making decisions in life? Are the reasons for our choices related to what God's plan is or did we just make up random rules for ourselves? Choosing a football team doesn't have costs like other life choices do.
In most decisions it is best to prayerfully consider our options and God's will instead of just looking for the cutest backside.
In Him,
Joyful
