When our kids are little bitties we spell words to each other that we don't want them to hear. Then they get a bit older and we have to be more clever about how we code our words to keep them in the dark. I am not proud to admit that I used, "Ole'" a thousand times to let Ron know he was an ole'hole' in my eyes. Whether he was bugging me to be cute or I was truly angry with him. My a**hole term for him. Kids are so much smarter than we give them credit for. I am sure they knew exactly what my words meant.
It is our hope as parents that we raise kids to love each other and to respect each other. How parents treat each other is the example they are raised with. I am ashamed of some of the choices we made in dealing with each other. Love and respect could not be detected in many of our interchanges with each other. My heart hopes that our children are influenced by the times we worked more than those when we blew up at each other. Setting an example of impatience and intolerance is not what any of us wants.
Do everything in love. 1 Corinthians 16:14
That is a verse that I try to live up to each day. Most days as I lay my head on my pillow I know there are a couple of moments I wish I could take back and redo. But I know with prayer and time in His word, I am living up to that measuring stick more than when I was on my own.
Ron has not had an ole' in years. So glad he put up with me for all these 34 years.
In Him,
Joyful
