People keep asking me how long until I retire. Guess that shows my age as much as the gently forming lines around my eyes. Since I just returned to the class I love teaching I don't even want to think about leaving these incredible kiddos behind. There is really nothing else I would rather be doing and no place I would rather be spending my time than here in my cozy, sensory friendly classroom. As I am writing this I am sitting under the soft light of a lamp in a rocking chair at 7 am enjoying the quiet classroom with a cup of coffee before my students arrive. What could be better than this?
I have said that coming back to this class of students with emotional and behavior needs has been like coming home. Of course I look forward to retiring someday and spending more time writing and being with Ronnie B. and my family but for now I am glad I am right here at school. Impacting the lives of kiddos whose lives are not calm has given me far more rewards than I could have imagined. Once again, I am grateful that God gives me a willing heart to say 'yes' when an opportunity comes along. This class, these kids, and the amazing staff I am surrounded be each and everyday makes coming to work a pleasure. Working somewhere I love with people who are more family than coworkers is a gift.
So for now, I will put off thoughts of sitting home with a cup of coffee on a cold Monday morning and be grateful for this cup of coffee and the peace and quiet start to my working day.
In Him,
Joyful
