Crocheting My Blues Away

My crocheting emotion meter is the most accurate at detecting how I am doing. When I am overwhelmed with stress there is no way I could pick up a crochet hook. On the other hand, if I am content and calm I don't crochet either. It is when I am mildly bonkers that I get a lot of projects done.

Of course since this activity is primarily a strategy to maintain mental health I don't do anything fancy or complicated. Crocheting for me is simply going back and forth with a high-low stitch that results in scarfs or blankets only. My elf like IA makes hats and other items with all kinds of complicated stitches. If I have to thing too much it isn't relaxing or therapy like so I keep it simple!

Last night was our last sign language class and afterward we went shopping. It was frigid cold but we were motivated to spend for some reason. I found some wonderful yarns for only a dollar a skein. If I get complicated yarn maybe it will look like I learned a new stitch or improved my skills. If I maintain my stress level I may have a couple scarves to pop in the box to my nieces in Seattle.

Crocheting is something I love but it also gives me a mood reading. What is your mood reader? Eating, shopping, sewing, playing an instrument are all outlets that help us cope with life when the road gets rocky. I pray each of you can enjoy the holidays and manage the heartaches in whatever way heals you best.

In Him,

  1. Right on gal. Crocheting is my leveler. I can crochet any time. But you are right the familiar stitches of a simple cap or scarf are very therapeutic. I have a new fancy yarn I am trying to work with and it is a stressor. If I get it done OK if not still OK. Blessings

  2. Eating is my mood reader. I need to develop a new one for sure.

  3. So glad you have something like that to calm you. I was just saying the other day how I want to learn to knit when I watched my 18 year old niece knit away at a scarf. I'm not really even sure what the difference between knitting and crocheting is exactly but I really want to learn!
