Mother's Day Garden

When all my kids were at home, it became a Mother's Day tradition that we would all spend the day preparing and planting the vegetable garden. It was always a lot of hard work but it was completed be all of us cooperating and enjoying each other's company. The feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day as we let the water bring life to the freshly tilled soil and plants was overwhelming. After showers, we would all dig into the barbecued hamburgers that seemed to taste even better that day.

The most cherished gifts don't come from a store. The most treasured gifts are time we spend together. All summer as we cared for and watched those plants grow and begin to produce it was easy to recall the day we spent together making this fruitful garden become a reality.

In Him,

  1. Joyful,
no truer words were ever spoken, 'the most cherished gifts done't come from a store. ahhh, that is right!
I wish you a blessed mother's day! Enjoy your day and treasure your memories!

  2. Happy Mother's Day to you! I know it's bittersweet not having all your kids with you but I pray your day is blessed! <3 And what a neat tradition you have!

  3. Mother's Day Blessings to you. I loved reading about your tradition; like you, I love having family around me-that's the best gift of all.
    Hugs to you today.

  4. That is a great tradition! I was turning over dirt on Mother's Day. It reminds me of my mom who was the gardener.

  5. We would all go to the green house and pick out flowers for my pots that were in our courtyard. I would plant them by myself and enjoy them all summer long. A big smile on my face as they bloomed into beautiful flowers. I am so gratefully to have my family with me when we picked them out. I know it wasn't on of their favorite list of things to do but I truly enjoyed it. This year my grandson went with me to pick out flowers for his mom garden. Keeping a tradition going.
