Live and Let Live While You Mind Your Own Business

Why is it that today we have lost sight of letting others live their lives as we live our own? Maybe in some areas we are more tolerant of others but in general we are more arrogant in our assumption that I am right and you are wrong.  I just hate that! It used to be that people vehemently disagreed about politics and religion. Now in every aspect of our lives we are tattling on our neighbors and each other.

In today's world of turning in your neighbors if their weeds are too tall or they leave their emptied trash can at the curb an hour past the time limit, we are becoming enemies more than communities. Everyone is just waiting to catch someone doing it wrong so they can report to Big Brother. Our two cats got a not so free night stay at the local pound last night because someone decided we shouldn't have outside cats. When I picked up my trembling girls, I was informed that you cannot have a domestic animal at large. Anyone else understand that this means those who believe you should not be allowed to have outdoor animals have won? The reason our kittens leave the yard is because kids at the park behind our house love to snuggle them. Win for everyone

My Kylie dog loves to go for rides in the car. I only take her when I feel it is safe to leave her in the car with the windows cracked. Lately, I don't take her even if it is 50 degrees outside. Someone may determine how cruel and thoughtless I am and break my car window and take her out. Do we need to protect the innocent? Absolutely. But too often we butt in when there is no danger or neglect on our neighbors part.

We are living in a society where we are policing each other rather than having each other's backs. It is a sad country that has to condemn each other for every little thing. What happened to Mind Your Own Business and Live and Let Live? We assume an I am right and you are wrong attitude. Every little thing offends us and we strongly believe we need to set our neighbor straight. The more we live this way the more divided and isolated we become. Community fades away and our children grow up believing that they should not tolerate anyone else's views.

I love my dog and my cats enormously. What if I believe you are the cruel one for keeping yours cooped up indoors their whole life?  Do I parent them or my children exactly as you parent yours? Nope. We are not the same person and diversity is a good thing. Even when it comes to religion and politics. We can discuss that another time.

In Him,
Joyful
