Reflect, Revere, Get Creative

 Whatever we reflect, we revere,
either to our ruin or to our restoration.
G.K. Beale

That is a powerful truth. I know that I can get caught up in the negatives, the poor me attitude. When I do that I become more whiney, more dissatisfied, and way more ‘me’ focused. However, when I am looking at the positive I am more likely to be more other focused. I know I can get obsessed with streaming a series on Netflix or Amazon Prime and neglect the very things in my life that give me real joy. Natalie said once as she got home from Young Life camp that she wished she could be as focused at home as she was at camp on God. It is so easy to lose focus on the positives and let the daily routines catch our focus.

This morning was a great example of my heart reflecting the negative. Ron and I camped in Port Angeles in our RV last night. A pleasant rain fell all night with a gentle sound that was so soothing. Ron got up before me and started the heater to get it warm inside and then made himself a cup of cappuccino. My take away was that he didn’t bother to make me coffee or even ask if I wanted hot water to make my own coffee. Pity party for one please. The truth was that our French press got mixed in with our son’s things and wasn’t even in the RV. Rather than reflecting on what Ron did for me, I pouted for him not considering me. Which was all in my own mind. This birthday week for me was spent on the Olympic Penninsula at a gorgeous airbnb with my family. Ron and my 13 year old grandgirl researched a Keto cheesecake, bought the ingredients and surprised me with the most delicious dessert. But he didn’t make me coffee. Hmmmm. What I reflect I revere. This quote in my Bible study this morning was so appropriate today. Ron felt bad for not making coffee so he straightened things up, did the dishes, and is currently driving in the rain while I blog at the table with a cup of coffee. Yes, I am drinking coffee. As it turns out I can make coffee right into my mug with a papertowel as my pour over. I think I will reflect on how lucky I am to spend my life with an engineer.

In Him,
Joyful
