Hail Mary/Swing for the Fence the Victory is Ours

In football there are times when the quarterback needs to put it all on the line and throw a Hail Mary Pass. He just puts his arm into it and throws the ball all the way down field hoping and praying that one of his receivers can get it in their hands in the end zone. This is a last resort.......a nothing else to lose........a one last shot at the hoped for outcome. Most of the time something goes wrong but occasionally it pays off and results in a win. In life we get to the point that we have to take a Hail Mary chance. Whether it is signing up for a trial medication or counseling or one more in vitro try, life puts us where we have no other hope but to swing for the fence or throw it to the end zone.

You can bet in those moments there is prayer on and off the field. Fans around the world are praying theirs will be the victory. In life we surround ourselves with loved ones who hold us up in prayer during times of one last hope. Our victory is much more life changing than the one on the scoreboard. There have been times in all of our lives that even those who claim to be nonbelievers will tell us they will pray for us. I love that. There is power in prayer just as there is power in having the love and support of others. In those times all our prayer partners are our family in faith. Prayer matters. God says in Matthew 18:20 Where two or more are gathered I am with them.  Coming together in prayer puts God at the center of our circumstance no matter how hopeless it may seem. This is when as a community we put the outcome in His hands.

The truth is whether our team miraculously pulls out a victory or if the scoreboard shows our loss, the victory is ours. When the last trial medication or the counseling doesn’t give us the victory we prayed for the victory is still ours. There is a bigger picture. Victory can be getting out of pain and moving on to a new circumstance. Boy is that hard to wrap our hearts around as we watch a love one slip away whether into Heaven or moving out of our lives. That is when we have to step even closer to our faith and trust that God never leaves our side even through our loss.

I'm gonna see a victory
I'm gonna see a victory
For the battle belongs to You, Lord
I'm gonna see a victory
I'm gonna see a victory
For the battle belongs to You, Lord

Our victory may be the love and support through times of crisis and the knowledge that we are in His hands even through the end of the game..... the end of life......the end of a relationship......the end of a dream. Being in His hands and in the hearts of those who love us can only be counted as a victory. I am trying to remember this as I am missing my Mom and my son during this Christmas season. Your love is my victory through my grief.

In Him,
Joyful
