Our day began in Fort Lauderdale at 4am as Ron, Paul, Cindy and I shuffled ourselves and our luggage down to the pleasant Uber driver waiting below. We weren’t able to check into our 7am flight the night before so we wanted to arrive three hours early like was recommended for an international flight to the Bahamas. Everything went perfect with much time to spare. Little did we know that over twelve hours later we would still be on a plane or should I say several different, unexpected planes. The plan was to head east to Atlanta the opposite direction from our destination.
We made it through the Atlanta airport with little incident. However, when we boarded our plane for our quick flight to paradise, I noticed our pilot walking around the plane and scratching his with what appeared to be a maintenance guru. About an hour later they had us deplane, train ride over to a different terminal to get on another plane they brought in from Wisconsin. A not so brief delay to our day.
The good news was that they moved us from the last row seats that didn’t recline to their version of first class, Comfort+. So far, so good Delta! Ron and I may have bragged a bit to Paul and Cindy who remained in the cheap seats. Our extensive leg room and free cocktails were too good not to rub it in a bit. It was only a short flight to March Harbor so it wouldn’t make that big of a difference……..or would it?
We arrived over the islands with Ron taking beautiful pictures of the stunningly turquoise waters and the numerous. There was a storm sitting over the airport and after circling for a bit, our pilot announced we were returning stateside. This time we flew and landed in Miami which was only twenty-six miles from where we started our day in Fort Lauderdale.
Now it was 4pm and they had to fuel, fill out extensive paperwork and more. The not so patient flight attendants handed out waters to make up for the wait on the tarmac without air conditioning. As soon as they had passed out the tiny water bottles there was an announcement not to flush the toilets. It appeared we had run out of blue juice, the toilet , we speculated that they may need to gather the waters back up even though the liquid in them was not blue.
After much delay and Ron shouting out for Mojitos anytime they asked if we needed anything. Everyone was getting pretty punchy. Jesse and Tyler, our attendants were great and so were the many children on board. Those parents had prepared for a two hour flight that turned into a twelve hour one and they had plenty of snacks and distractions. We realized there was a charging port in our fancy seats so offered to charge devices for kiddos in the back that were running out of another kind of juice.
Needless to say, we laughed and shared tales on our taxi drive to the sailboat. The lobster pasta and cocktails tasted better somehow after such an adventure. What a day!!!! Well worth it for the company and this glorious trip.
In Him,
Joyful
