Susi is Indeed Older than Me

Susi is here and she is older than me!!!!!! It is crazy to think how long we have lived life together. Starting our journey and friendship in Flagstaff working at a camp for underprivileged kiddos. We all got stuck in a downpour on a camp out and we packed kids in sleeping bags under our big trucks to get them out of the rain. When everyone else seemed as dry as they could be, Susi and I sought refuge in a stinky, campground bathroom. The bright light wouldn’t turn off so we put our extra jeans on our head to keep warm. This was probably like 1975 or 76. Too bad there weren’t any cell phones so I can’t show you a picture of just how ridiculous we looked. The beauty of that moment was that we spent the entire night laughing and sharing. We fell in love with the friendship that was growing between us.

Here we are in our golden years still laughing and enjoying life together. What a joy to have her here with us for her birthday. We are sharing memories and creating new ones. As you can see from her four types of birthday cake, we couldn’t choose what kind to get. Jenn, Clara, Nina, Natalie, Nate and Felix came to celebrate. We cut each into nine pieces and had a sweet taste of each. Yummy!

It is fun to share stories of of our lives and how our families are doing in person. We spent some time up on our deck just being together. You know you are sister/friends when the silence is comfortable and doesn’t need to be filled with words. Susi is someone who knows my family. She is my family. The loss of my sister is her loss too. It is good to have a friend who was there for our beginnings. Being in my wedding, living through the closet when Ronnie B and I got married. (An old house with several apartments), college roommates, sharing my kiddos younger years, hugging through the loss of our Scooter, editing the story of his loss, and now celebrating that she is older than me for at least seven months.

We have a deal that if either of us is ever 125 pounds and isn’t terminally ill we have to buy the other one a car. There has never been any threat that either of us is going into debt. Perhaps we should change it to a more reasonable number. Nah, it is just fun to think that the deal is there.

Happy Birthday Susi…..I love you more than dirt. Aren’t you glad I didn’t make you play liars dice at your party?

In Him,

Joyful
