I sat on Cathy's floor with my head in her lap sobbing. I can't even remember what made me so sad and upset. What I do remember is that when my heart was so sad, about what it was sad about, I knew I could go to her house, crawl up the stairs, and she would be there to listen and comfort me.
Life gets hard. That is a fact, not an opinion. What gets us through is having friends in our lives that will let us just fall apart. Friends who will be there through the breakdown and help put the pieces back together. It is not that we need our friends to fix what is wrong, usually we don't even want their advice. We all just need a lap to crawl into like we did with our parents when we were young.
I have heard it said that life is too hard to go through alone. Boy is that an understatement! Husbands are great and I thank God for Ron. But when I really need to be put back on track emotionally, I need my friends, my girlfriends. Husbands are smart about this. Cathy's husband, Darin, can just look at my face coming up the stairs and know it is time for him to clear out. Girl time!
The wonderful thing about a sob session with a girlfriend is that they usually end up crying with you. Of course, before you go home there is bound to be laughter and usually ice cream, Chunky Monkey will do.
We are never too old to need the comfort. Girlfriends are the perfect remedy for a lousy day.
In Him,
Joyful
