My Oscar Mayer Spokes Baby

Cam was an extremely cute, articulate 2 year old. So much so that no one questioned it when I told them that he was chosen to be the new spokes baby for Oscar Mayer Wieners. Well, I can spin a good story if you have noticed. Anyway, on that particular April Fool's Day about 23 years ago, my Mom and neighbor Kathy bought my story hook, line, and sinker.

What I didn't anticipate was how angry they were going to get when I told the truth. They both insisted that I contact Oscar Mayer and get Cam an audition. Talent agents had nothing on these 2 adoring ladies. Cam was going to be famous and I was going to be the 1 to get him seen.

Of course, I never contacted Oscar Mayer and Cam is only famous with those of us who know and love him. But that has always been my all time favorite April Fool's prank.

Today when I got a call from Miss Kathy informing me that her new granddaughter had been chosen to be the new Oscar Mayer spokes baby, I was not at all shocked or fooled. We had a good chat and laugh about Cam and her new little one. Funny how 1 phone call can put you right back 23 years ago in an instant. Remarkably, Oscar Mayer has never had a spokes baby. But if they did I am sure they would have picked my 2 year old who could speak so clearly or Kathy's new granddaughter that is as cute as they come.

Kathy and I only speak a couple times a year and live 2000 miles apart. But true friends don't need daily chats to live in each others hearts daily. We share memories that make us smile every now and then. So glad you called today my friend. Happy April Fool's Day to you.
