Gordon's Concerts

Our hometown has a duck pond surrounded by sloping grass banks at the center of town. What is outstanding in our town is that Russell Gordon started Friday night concerts all summer over 20 years ago. So on Friday nights you can find the young and the old in our town dancing, sitting and chatting in lawn chairs, or just strolling around catching up with each other.

I love the concerts, the people, all the freedom kids have, and oh yeah, the music. Tonight we went to our 1st concert of the season. So many friends, kids coming up for a hug, and Gordon. Russ dedicated the whole summer series to Ryan and a couple others who have left this earth but not our hearts. It meant the world to Ron and I to see Ryan honored by this man who is our friend and has such a heart for music and our town.

Although my eyes sprung a few leaks as we wandered around listening to great music and hugging friends, I am glad I mustered the courage to attend. Ron draws strength from talking to loved ones about Ry. I find that my tears flow and I can't quite catch my breath. Thankfully, as we walked around the pond hand in hand, we were both loving each other right where we are on this path without our son.

It does bring a smile remembering how he loved the Gordon's concerts from the time he was 4. Boy, did he have fun dancing with all the pretty little girls. Hope this summer we can take our 4 grandkids out to dance and enjoy the concerts at the pond.

In Him,
Joyfully embraced by our hometown
