A first grader told me today that he was smiling for no reason. "You need a reason to be sad, you don't need a reason to be happy. Just be happy."
Shawn told us at church last Sunday that God doesn't want us to be happy since happiness can flip in an instant. What He really wants is for us to have joy. Guess you could tell from my blog name that I agree with that. Jesus-Others-then Yourself=Joy. Joy is having peace and Christ's love with us even when circumstances in life make us sad. It is reasonable to be sad when life gets tough, so my little guy was right. We are sad when we have a reason to be but we can have the joy and feel we are not alone even when we are sad. All our lives have difficulties and each of us deals with the pain differently. My prayer for each of you and for myself is that we remember that we can lean on those who love us and our loving Christ is right there kneeling beside us.
In Him,
Joyful
