FREE HUGS

FREE HUGS! There were these crazy, smiling people with FREE HUGS written on pieces of cardboard at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta this year. They were just running around hugging anyone who would let them and grinning from ear to ear. Simple really, this concept of giving away one of the most important touches in our lives. The price was right for the recipients and the cost to those with the pieces of recycled boxes was nil. So this was definitely one of those win-win situations we all are looking for in life.

Some may be offended by the hug of a stranger, but that was the beauty of this. No one had to take a free hug but anyone could.

Today, in class my 1st graders were going over some books on feelings and we were all sharing times we had felt certain ways. The book on loneliness brought my mom and mother-in-law to mind. They poured their lives and their love into their families and now their husbands are both in heaven and their children grown. Their lives and their houses that once held the chaos and energy of raising a family are now quiet and must feel lonely at times. Not that either of them whines or complains they both recognize the seasons of life and this is just another season for them.

FREE HUGS lets all give this most important gift away as often as we can. We all need the loving touch of others, so in sharing a hug with someone we are actually getting the gift back from the recipient! So if you see me, hug me and I will hug you back. Maybe with a strange look at first if I don't know you, but hey, that will just be something to chuckle about too.
