'Mom you won't believe it!' Tillie and her girlfriend came running into my room her senior year. It was the first week of August and they were cuddled up in the backyard on the trampoline for a girl's sleepover. The subject of their amazement was the shooting stars racing across the sky. Their enthusiasm was delightful. They were astounded how many stars were falling. So they decided to ask God to send them even more and lo and behold He did!
I enjoyed listening to their account of what was quite obviously a miracle in the night sky delivered especially for them. Wish I had never brought up all the previous years when Tillie's brothers, Ron and I would all sleep on the trampoline about this same time of year to watch the spectacular display that was and is the Perseid Meteor Shower. Bad mother!
Deflated they went out to watch the sky that now was somehow less exciting and more ordinary. If ever I could have had the magical ability to slurp all my words back into my throat that would have been the time I would have used it. Sometimes it is best to just let the magic of a moment live.
In Him,
Joyful
