Alaskan Salmon And Alaskan Memories

Alaska is just a few miles from New Mexico and took more than a few days to drive there in our old yellow camper van. But boy, was it worth the trip! Just after a big chunk of our town was destroyed by a runaway controlled burn started by the Park Service, our family set out on a 2 month journey to the great state of Alaska.

We piled the 4 kids, my mom and us in with little room for clothes, fishing gear, skateboards and other essential items. But we managed to make a trip full of adventure that are still treasured memories today. Made a point to stop at every skate park and fishing hole along the way and saw an incredible variety of wildlife.  Ron's insistence on going to visitor centers to learn more about each specific area helped educate us and connect us to the people and the history.

Everyone kept journals of our trip from here to there and all the crazy things that happened as we headed all the way to the Arctic Circle. I am so thankful for my visionary husband because he did all the trip planning and research. The experience was one I am forever grateful to have as my kiddos have grown and gone out on their own.

There will never be another trip with the 7 of us together in our 19 foot camper van, but hopefully there are trips in our future with the addition of daughter-in-laws and grandkids. Can't wait to fix up our soon to be remodeled motor home and hit the road with the little ones. Who knows? Maybe we will all caravan to Alaska one day and make new memories with our expanding family.

Tonight we ate salmon steaks from one of Mike and Deb's Alaskan adventures and reflected on all the great times we had eating fish on the beach night after night. I feel blessed by all the time I have had with my God Chosen children and look forward to so many more in the future. Thank you, Jesus, for family-filled Sundays and shared memories.

In Him,
Joyful
