Life In Our Backyard

We have a nest with 3 spotted eggs and an extremely protective mama in my hanging flower pot on the back porch. The choice is water the flowers and disturb the eggs or let the flowers perish. So far we have been gingerly watering around the nest but I don't think that will work after the little darlings hatch.

It is so entertaining watching this mama bird weave and dive off the porch and around the yard to draw our cats and dog away from her precious little ones. She risks her own self skimming the grass with our animals hot on her tail just to keep them away. Although we know and she knows exactly what she is doing our naive animals haven't got a clue. Okay it is true, we are easily entertained.

Tonight I am sitting out in my soft, comfortable lounge chair watching Lis enjoy the park all to herself. It is rare that there is not someone on a swing or throwing a ball for a dog or playing basketball or simply sitting on a bench.  It is also rare for our house to be empty and quiet. Usually there are kids and grandkids coming and going. But tonight it is just Lis at the park and me in my chair relaxing and enjoying the colorful sunset and sweet breeze.

This is so much better than television inside. I love life in our yard that extends to our neighborhood park. My life is blessed.
