Summertime is drawing to an end and it is only the end of July. In the past we would not be thinking about school supplies or gearing up until mid August. Those days are over. My sister is a secretary at a midschool and her first day back at work was yesterday. I have a week and a half till I officially am on the clock but need to be in my classroom now to be ready Day 1 for the munchkins.
Some think teachers are so fortunate for having the summer break and that is actually true. Summers are a nice break but it doesn't mean we aren't working. So many of us attend classes or workshops, begin planning for the new year, review curriculum and student files, and generally prepare for the next year. That is not to say that we don't enjoy our families, have days at the pool, take our vacations, and rest up. We do! Thankfully, we do.
This year I said yes to teaching the elementary behavior disorder class for our district. I have not been in a self contained program like this for 27 years. It will certainly stretch me as I adjust to more staff, fewer students, and students who need the very best practices to succeed. Fortunately, my district provided additional training this summer to stimulate my ideas and boost my confidence. I can't wait for the kiddos to arrive to start this school year. Yes, it will be a new challenge but one I look forward to tackling.
In Him,
Joyful
