I got a new address book for Christmas. It is a great gift since all of my kids have moved and have new addresses as well as other family and friends. The goal is always to only use pencil when I get a new book so I can erase and change the addresses as people I love move through life. But invariably, I need to add someone and can only find a pen. The changing addresses is still the easy part of a new address book.
The tough part of writing in a new address book is the loved ones that have passed into heaven. Those addresses that I used to send cards and letters to that will never be sent again. It is a hard truth that each of us no matter how loved will not be in this book forever. That our time is short so we need to reach out through snail mail, texts, emails or social media to let others know that we are thinking of them.
The beauty part is that there are new addresses to add as my life continues to include new people into my heart and my book. Life is a journey and we are gifted with others to walk beside in different sections of our path.
Remembering those who are only in our hearts now and connecting with those who have just arrived in our lives makes a new address book bittersweet. It occurs to me that address books may become a thing of the past as we have physical addresses in our phone contacts. But for now I am grateful for the names I am transferring, those I don’t need to, and those I will add. Life is a journey and I love my path partners.
In Him,
Joyful
