Did he really have a pig nut? Wow! Last night we laughed, we cried, we ate, I drank whiskey with my Ron and family friends. I adore where our conversation went. It circled and spun as each of us shared stories, experiences and passions. Somehow through the conversation we got to the fact that our grown kids believed a friend from school had a pig nut. We could not remember his name so with modern technology we texted and called our kids and they both filled us in with the name. Was it true or childhood lore? My Ryan claimed to have seen it. Yuck! I wonder if this kiddo knows that us old ladies are still sitting around the table wondering if this is true. Funny how things stick with us for a lifetime.
The familiarity of some stories just bring a smile, a laugh or a sadness even decades later. I have too many to share moments with Dayna Brown my childhood neighbor and closest friend. She was a constant in my family. Her antics still are as fresh as ever. Dayna brought a sack lunch everyday to school and a nickel for milk. Milk cost 4 cents. Everyday she threw away a penny with her brown paper bag. This drove me nuts because every Friday she could have used those four pennies for her milk. It didn’t matter. She never listened to me or changed her routine. In middle school Dayna began wearing knee socks because that was the cool thing to wear. Since she wore them everyday by summer her thighs were tan and her calves were paper white. So she spent that summer in Phoenix wearing knee socks because she was too embarrassed to unveil her pasty legs. Oh Dayna how I wish you were still alive to share these memories with.
Last night was so special. Our conversation just meandered all over the place. Friends got to know each other better and connect through our laughter and our tears. I learned things about each of them that I never knew before. Time spent always helps us see each other a little more clearly. This was just what I needed during a week that has been somewhat emotional and upsetting. I hope you can recall some old memories whether true or lore and connect with others over a meal, a drink or just dessert.
In Him,
Joyful
