So I huffed and I puffed and I blew the house down.
Not by the hair on my chinny chin chin.
We have all read about the three little pigs and how they each resolved to solve their wolf problem in different ways. Of course we also know that only one little pig had a successful plan that not only solved their fears but took care of the wolf forever. The wolf also provided a nice meat stew for the piggies when he fell in the pot of boiling water.
Yesterday I was listening to the song, We all bleed the same. This is such a powerful song right now in our country. Each of us believes our side is right and how stupid the other side is for viewing the issues through their eyes. I know I am as guilty of this stubborn stance as anyone else. Though I try to keep my beliefs on politics to myself, I know others around me know which side I fall on. When did we get so divided into right and left instead of being fellow Americans? I have a couple ideas.
~Respect for the presidency faded when Jimmy Carter was made fun of rather than respected for being a peanut farmer who made it to the White House. His brother’s Billy Beer didn’t help either.
The truth is we should have recognized his heart for our country and accomplishment to win the presidency.
~Our staunchly divided views are even further apart because each of us watches news that only reports our side of the issues. Journalists quit delivering the news years ago and began campaigning for their own agendas. No wonder we don’t come together as a people. Even when we try to watch the other side’s cable network it is usually with eyerolls and skepticism rather than an open mind.
If only we could go back to Walter Cronkite days where we all heard the same news each evening. In my mind he was unbiased. That may just be my misconception but at least we were all hearing the same news.
~Our harsh feelings toward anyone with different views seems to have raised its ugly head more recently. The feeling that if our side doesn’t triumph the country will surely go to ruin is powerful. Looking back at history we see that which ever side is in power our country has not only survived but thrived.
We need compromise to move our country forward not ugly words slung at each other and digging in our heels to make it impossible to get anything done.
The example that we set and that our politicians scream by condemning anyone who disagrees with us is how we are educating our children. They are watching and listening. How will they be better people for living with hate, deceit and anger rather than acceptance, compromise, and understanding? I know in my own life there have been too many times that I am absolutely positive I am right only to learn later that I couldn’t have been more wrong. I am glad the world doesn’t turn by my views of every situation. We need to remember Children learn what they live.
Are you left?
Are you right?
Pointing fingers taking sides
When are we gonna realize?
We all bleed the same
We’re more beautiful when we come together
We all bleed the same
So tell me why, tell me why
We’re divided
If we’re gonna fight
Let’s fight for each other
If we’r gonna shout
Let love be the cry
Mandisa
We all bleed the same.
In Him,
Joyful
