I’m writing a gospel, a chapter each day.
What is the gospel according to me today?
My Bible study today pointed out how we have stories in our lives that we tell most everyone we meet. This is so true. So is one of the things about our lives how Jesus loves us and walks beside us through our days? I know one story that I always like to share with people is about how Ron came to my house the first time. When I asked him if he wanted something to drink, he asked for a strawberry milkshake. My Mom was on Weight Watchers so she had frozen strawberries. We got out the blender and just as he turned it on I removed the top to add more milk. OOPS! Our ceiling, kitchen cabinets and Ron and I were covered in sticky berry juice. The mess or the cleanup are not the reason I retell this story so often. Ron looked down at me with the sweetest (literally) look on his face and said, “We will remember this our whole lives.” Wait. What? Will we be together for our whole lives? It was a glimpse into our future together.
My hope is that the stories I speak, the way I live is a testimony to Christ’s love for me. I desire to pour my love on others and not focus inward. This next year and a half will be tough to stay positive as the 2020 election rushes to center stage. Neither side is all right or all wrong. I pray I can remain open minded and have grace for those who agree with my views and more importantly those who don’t. A president will be reelected or someone new will take office. One party or the other will be the majority in the House and Senate. I can choose to grump and groan or take Heather’s example of how she responded after the last election. She made cookies with her kiddos and delivered them to our community. Some were celebration treats and others were grieving the loss of their candidate. Either way, She spoke clearly of her love of each of us and certainly wrote a gospel that reflected Jesus that day two and a half years ago. I want to be more like Heather sharing His love on everyone regardless of any other circumstances. Maybe the day after the 2020 elections I should deliver strawberry milkshakes around town with my high school sweetheart. Hopefully we will not make as big of a mess in our own kitchen.
In Him,
Joyful
