Leaning Into Retirement

Ron and I walked up to our local pub last evening for a brewski. It was a beautiful walk and I am thrilled that walking the mile or two there and back was not the challenge it used to be. I may not be running marathons but I am glad we are taking our evening strolls through our little town. Knowing there is a cold beer at the end of the walk and conversations with people we have known for decades is a great motivator. We even Faceetimed Natalie so she could see the incredible sunset over her hometown.

What a gift it is to be retired. I have to admit I was beyond fearful of downtime. The push to be busy and productive is strong. It seems harder to relax than to keep moving. Yesterday was a day of relaxation. Breakfast with Lisa then home to book flights for our sail in the Bahamas in early June. Did I just say that. A sailboat trip in the Bahamas that is so cool. Then I spent the day reading a book. It didn’t even make me squirm that I was just being not doing.

Don’t get me wrong, there is still a lot on my calendar to accomplish but I hope to embrace the peace and quiet moments as well. So today I will get busy cleaning out a guest room where we piled everything and make a list of ‘to dos’.  At the top of the list is set up meeting with Social Security. Someone has to pay for this retirement inactivity.

In Him,
Joyful
