Susi is Coming Hold on to Your Hats

I am beyond excited that my college roommate and lifelong friend is coming for a visit. Susi is my family. She and I are both teachers, have both lived with the heartbreak of endometriosis and have spent a lifetime connected to each other. Unfortunately, we have not been able to spend much time with each other over the years. Living in two different states and raising a family doesn’t always allow for time together. But that will be set aside as we spend the next four days just hanging out.

Susi spent so much time with us when our kiddos were little. She would come for summer trips and any time there was a long weekend. Our Natalie was born at 28 weeks and came home with alarms to make sure she was breathing and her heart didn’t stop. Susi was here for months taking turns with the every two hour feedings. Often Ron, Susi and I would spend too much time awake in the middle of the night playing the latest video game after our feeding session. We had a wonderful summer as Natalie’s strength grew and our three boys were full of energy and enthusiasm. Susi was there not just to lighten the load but be an active part of our lives.

Here we are decades after meeting at a wilderness camp where we both worked. All the shenanigans of our college and young adult days will be poured over with laughter in the next few days. We will traipse around New Mexico to add more stories to reminisce the next time we are fortunate enough to get together. Since we are both retired I am sure it won’t be so long between visits in our future.

I am sure there will be a blog about the antics of the next few days. Stay tuned it is sure to be wild fun.

In Him,
Joyful
