Here I sit full of sadness and joy for my friend, sister, neighbor who is at a low point in her life. She is on Hospice, signed an order of protection for the man she loves but fears. Life isn't supposed to unfold this way. At our most fragile times we are supposed to be embraced and surrounded by those who cherish us and make our path comfortable, safe and full of love. Her joy is in knowing that this is the right action to take not only for her but for him. She isn't doing this to him but for his safety as well as her own. Sometimes life has to change even when it is so difficult to admit. This courageous lady took the necessary steps yesterday to ensure a more peaceful rest of her life. She longs for heaven but is tired and frightened of the walk down this hall of illness to get there.
She is now surrounded with family and lifelong friends who will hold her close so she is not isolated or alone. Reassuring her that her decision was the best for all involved. I will frequently walk across the street with food and prayers to feed her insatiable sweet tooth and heart. Communicating is difficult for her but her tear filled eyes show the love she has for each of us and for our God. Tuxedo cake was not even on my radar until she brought some across the street and we shared coffee a few years back. Now I will fill her with Tuxedo cake and anything else that will spoil her even a little. I pray for courage like yours in my own life when circumstances are hard. You are a beautiful example to all of us.
In Him,
Joyful
