Go Where the Wind Swirls Around You

Cloudy with a chance of rain is kind of the way life feels some days. Then there are days where the forecast calls for sun and not a cloud in the sky. Even those days when the winds howl are days we can choose to enjoy. Heck, there are people who purposefully move to Chicago and it is called the Windy City.

They know the wind is going to blow. I love the long days of daylight in the summer and don’t always appreciate the dark days of winter. The truth is that even in December I can be appreciative of the getting into jammies at 5:00pm and curling up with a good book. Let’s admit that it would be boring if all weather and ultimately all life was the same. Seasons change and some are more enjoyable than others. I guess those who live on the equator know that days are going to be an equal balance of light and dark whether it is December 21st or June 21st but the rest of us need to be flexible as the ratio shifts.

Being here in Washington near Seattle we are enjoying even longer days of light with our kids and grandkids. Yesterday, we went to Mount St. Helens and on the drive home were witness to an hour long sunset that turned the sky a vibrant orange. I don’t think I have ever seen a sunset last as long as that one did. Simply beautiful. What a joy driving home marveling at God’s canvas while chatting with family. Tomorrow Ronnie B and I head back to New Mexico but our visit has been wonderful. Making memories through adventures and quiet conversations. FaceTime and phone calls are great.  But there  is something about sitting down to watch Sing 2 together and collectively grumbling about the Abuela who is not accepting that connects us. Early morning chats or projects completed together both give opportunities to bond. It would be nice if we lived closer but the times we enjoy together are precious. So as this trip ends and school for our grandkids begin we will get ready for what comes next. One thing we know for sure is that life is an adventure as our family continues to grow. Adventure before dementia is not just on our rv tire cover but how we do life one season at a time.

In Him,

Joyful
