Politics, politics, politics~ugh! I just learned that two people who have always had a heart for one another are separated over a social media dispute about politics. That just breaks my heart. As we enter yet another season of elections and toxic, negative ads and opinions, lets agree to respectfully disagree. What I know is that I don’t know everything. Those I listen to on the news don’t know everything. Besides their ratings increase as they get me fired up with their narratives. That being said, I am not going to assume I am right and you are wrong. There is a component of right and wrong on both sides of most arguments.
I wonder if it should be a requirement for students to take a debate class so they learn to argue both sides. You have to really put yourself in the other shoes to defend their position. I’m not sure if this would influence your opinion but it would perhaps help you see things a bit more balanced.
Each of us claims to hate negative ads but they must work or there wouldn’t be so many of them. I just want to believe that those who put themselves out their to serve want to improve our country not destroy it. But the ads sure paint a different picture.
Let’s be intentional about leading with grace for others no matters their politics. Also let’s not try to convince each other that our views are the right views. Who could possibly change your mind? Chances are you won’t influence them either so just talk about things that you can agree on. Be careful because even pumpkin spice can start a disagreement. Who knew!
In Him,
Joyful
