Summer Togetherness in Our Little Community

Here we are at the first weekend of summer. The coffee is hot, friends are gathering for camping trips and barbecues. Last night Billy Bob Thornton and his band played at our pond that is the center of our community. There were a few thousand people hanging out on lawn chairs, catching up with neighbors and children bouncing in bouncy houses. What a perfect start to this new season. It was the last day of school and teens were rejoicing in being finished with classes. There was a volleyball game going on with what looked like returning college students or interns who came to work at the national lab. The energy and life was beating along with the incredible music from the stage. Oh how lucky we are to live in this town.

All across the nation other towns are just as convinced that they live in the perfect place and they are right. Building family and friends were we are is what matters. A few years ago Ronnie B and I were in Utah over the Fourth of July. We went to the parade in town and quickly realized what makes parades special is celebrating those in the parade and enjoying those we are watching along side. It is delightful for those who live there but falls flat for out of town ears like us.

Pools are opening and the days keep getting longer just in time for us to get outside and live in our own communities knowing that we are right where we are meant to be. Take a flowering plant to a neighbor or friend and catch up. Maybe the weathers where you are will even allow you to wear shorts and short sleeves. As you can see by Jenn’s photo it has been pretty rainy here in northern New Mexico. That didn’t stop the folks from showing up even if it was in rain gear.

In Him,

Joyful
