Silent Saturday Reflections

How people must have felt this Saturday, the day after Jesus died on that cross. The silence they experienced is one we too often feel when we are waiting. I love the image that the silence of God is not the absence of God. He is always with us even when it seems we are alone. This Saturday is the hope of tomorrow and Jesus baring our sins so we can remain close to Him. Even before His resurrection we were on His heart and on His mind. In the past, I thought this day was one that He was battling to overcome our sins. My pastor son helped me to see that on the cross Friday when Jesus said it is finished, that our sins had already been paid for. So this Saturday takes on a whole new perspective for me. It is a day of waiting and knowing that the task of carrying all our sins is finished. Sunday is coming and so is our walk with Jesus into the light of His love.

So what happened on Silent Saturday? Some of God’s greatest work happens behind the scenes. The teacher is always quiet during the test. If God seems far or quiet, it doesn’t mean He isn’t working. There can be a spiritual victory unfolding. Wait and stay close.

It is snowing softly outside my window on this mid April morning. I have a need for rest today due to a medical issue. This has provided me with a heart of not getting up and get going but of just being quiet and enjoying the beauty outside my window. What a perfect gift of time, rest and joy. God is in me, around me and wants to spend quiet time with me.
Happy Silent Saturday and Easter Sunday to each of you. Take a few moments to just be today amid the coloring of Easter eggs, preparing baskets and baking hams. It will all get done even when you spend time with Him.

In Him,
Joyful
