Meet Josie our newest family member. She came to us from a shelter that considered her one of sixteen feral cats brought in together. Her first days with us were spent hiding behind a big barrel of stucco in our mud room. She did come out to eat but never when we could see her. I set a chair in the mud room and just hung out blogging, reading and surfing the internet. A week or two in, Miss Josie quietly came out and rubbed against my legs. Trust was slow to develop and it took a few more weeks for her to hop up on my lap. With extreme caution she explored the rest of her new home. Here we are about six weeks in our journey to becoming a family and this purr machine is so comfortable with us. She longs for attention and even wants to get to know our pooch.
The past few weeks I have been dealing with a debilitating back issue and have been spending way too much time on the couch. Josie keeps me company while she longs for a scratch behind the ears. I marvel at the way this timid girl has become so bold in her love and curiosity for the world around her. She is quick to hop up and acquaint herself with friends that stop by. Even our great grandson who is two and a half and a bit wild doesn’t phase her. She will let him approach and pet her unless he is carrying one of his treasured sticks. That is where she draws the line and once again runs for cover. She is not only a snuggle bug but a smart one at that.
I was apprehensive when I decided to bring Josie home from the shelter. There was no way of knowing what traumas she may have lived through in her first ten months. It was not clear how she would fit into our family that has wee ones as well as a dog to get used to. She has far exceeded our hopes for her being a part of life at the Barber’s. Welcome home Josie. You are loved and enjoyed more than any of us could have imagined.
In Him,
Joyful
