Human Being Not Human Doing!

The world says, 'Keep busy, and if you are not busy at least look busy.' I have bought into this idea of my self worth being tied to my accomplishments for far too long. In the Bible, Christ told Martha, who was doing all the work, that her sister, Mary was the 1 who was making the right choice. Mary was sitting at Jesus' feet. This is such a hard concept because people need to be fed and chores must get one. So who is supposed to accomplish all of these tasks if we sit at Christ's feet?

My take on this lesson is that we are not supposed to lazily live in our own filth or neglect our responsibilities but we are expected to take time to be with Him. It is so difficult in today's hectic, activity filled world to just stop. Even good deeds though noble, can keep us from what is truly important in life.

A friend once told me she had no time for her children because being the talented pianist that she was she played and rehearsed for her church several times a week. Her saying yes was really making her say no. No to time with her family, no to time for herself to focus on Him.

We are human beings not human doings. There is a phrase that sounds right but is hardly true in todays American's lives. When we are not busy with all the important, worthwhile tasks we are performing, we find other activities to fill the dead air space. Instead of turning out the lights and getting down on our knees. Christ wants a personal relationship with me yet I put everything in front of making time to just hang out with Him. This is a relationship not a religion. So it is important to take time to hang out and share not only my wants and needs but to interact intently with my Lord and Savior and let Him be my best friend.

In Him,
Joyful
