Whether chosen or by birth once a child is laid in your arms you are it's mom. The tasks of loving, nurturing, caring for, guiding, and protecting are God given. The goal is simple to create in each of our children God loving, joyful, contented adults. Ones that are secure in their faith and confident in their choices and who put others before themselves. Christ-like in their love and compassion for others is the way each will be fulfilled in their journey through life. Our role as mom doesn't end when our children reach maturity and are off on their own. In our hearts the desire to be there with them through difficult times is still pressing. Sometimes we have to just bow our heads and pray with the knowledge that His hands can protect them in all circumstances.
Letting go and letting God is difficult for moms who have been available and steering our little ones for years. It is difficult but not impossible. The secret is to ask how we can help without demanding to help.
My children our grown and living their lives in Christ. Yet, I still feel the urge to interject my old habits of over guiding their steps at times. Those are times when I need to fall to my knees and give them over to Him. As a mom it is clear that if I do my job right, that job will become obsolete. The micromanaging of their lives and choices became unnecessary long before I was willing to give it up. Of course, loving and praying for them will continue as long as I have breath.
In Him,
Joyful
