Restoration Will Come

Restoration is my word for the day. It seems that even as some things in life are uncertain and some things are hard to live out there is hope for restoration in each of us. That is how we have to live if we are to get through the difficult seasons of life. Right now our world is focused on the Corona virus that we had never even heard of while we celebrated Christmas only a few months ago. It is certainly affecting each of us whether in finances or social situations. That doesn’t even tell the story of those who are desperately ill with this disease or those with fragile health who are terrified. What we know and believe is that as quickly as this has changed our world, there are those who are figuring out how to protect us from it in our future. Restoration. Field trips will happen again. Vacations and business trips along with sporting events will resume. But for now it is a season of home. A time to spend time in our own place. What a gift are the delivery services that have become a part of so many people’s lives. That in our solitude we can get what we need without going out. Maybe not toilet paper but most things we need.

I got pizza with my grandgirls yesterday and they were broken hearted because their P.L.U. concert was cancelled. It is something they look forward to each year. A time to shine in the talents they have worked tirelessly on for so long. They shared the songs they were supposed to sing and how proud they were of this opportunity. Kenzie said she was just in a bad mood. Kayla also had her sixth grade camp canceled. So she took a double blow in one day. For them it was personal. This was not about the global pandemic but about the interruption to their lives. Logically they know there will be other concerts, other times to sing their hearts out. But on this day they are grieving the lost opportunity. Will it make it more sweet when life gets back to our new normal? Perhaps. The hygiene of all will be improved. People won’t be buying toilet paper for months. America has seen where it is vulnerable with drugs and supplies that come from other countries. Those things will be improved going forward. Like the invention of Velcro changed our lives through the space program. Jobs will come back to our country because of Corona. Restoration will happen. Maybe we will all see that our differences politically are not as great as our commonalities as a country. Restoration.

Saturday I fly home to New Mexico from Washington. NM has three cases while Washington is a hot bed of this virus. My next couple days are affected by this. I need to get my haircut here rather than with my Evelyn. When I get home I need to stay put in my house and not go out and share myself with my community for a couple weeks. I have been a bit sad that the past year has kept me from being home so much. Now I will be planted back in my home for a reason. A grateful heart is how I need to approach this. But the truth of missing home is not missing my bed or four walls. It is missing my people that are not just neighbors but family. So I will be glad for techno communication and delivery services and look forward to when life is restored to being more social.

In Him,
Joyful
