Evening Roadtrip With My Ronnie B.

Late evening ride up into the Jemez mountains that we are blessed to live within a few miles of. Ron and I took off around 5:00 pm and just drove. We stopped to look for wildlife passing others with their binoculars focused on the Valle Grande. Besides a herd of cattle, the elk that are usually grazing there were nowhere to be seen. Then we decided to wander on up to Jemez Springs to see what was going on. People were enjoying a meal at the popular restaurant and carrying out their styrofoam boxes of leftovers to enjoy later. Next we got the idea to go down to see where Kenny and Eleanors old schoolhouse home was in Ponderosa. Sadly it was in perhaps too far gone to repair condition. The windows were all broken, doors standing open, porch and stucco crumbling, and home to more varmints than we cared to imagine. This once vital property to the community was such a hard site to walk around. From there we drove a back gravel road back to Sierra Los Pinos and eventually home to dinner. We took more than one wrong split in the road but happened upon some beautiful views and scenery. All the while the sun was setting and turning the sky blood red. Ron stopped at one point to point out a image on the far off cliff of a woman standing with a blanket around her. He shared that a couple years ago he picked up a native woman who needed a ride. She shared this image with him as he drove. Last night he stopped at just the right spot to share it with me. I love that!

We had a lovely time just enjoying each other’s company on our adventure. Both of us heard clearly from our tummies that we had only had a breakfast burrito all day. Luckily, Ron put a food box in the back of our car. So we ate crackers and chicken salad and coconut to satisfy us until we made it home. Around four hours after departing we got home and ate the stuffed bell peppers that I made before we left and Natalie kindly baked. Our evening together ended watching old Seinfeld episodes and realizing that what we used to laugh at still made us chuckle even if it is far from politically correct. I can’t wait for our next adventure. Perhaps we will head a different direction this evening. Who knows?

In Him,
Joyful
