Two beautiful, loving moms died this week. One had been fighting Parkinson’s for a decade, the other’s heart just stopped. Both families are grieving the loss of their comforters this weekend. It occurs to me that as mothers our main job is to protect and comfort our families. Grown children and those who are still in our nest are surrounded by our love when life throws them a gut punch. But when the heartbreak is the loss of a mom she cannot be their to wrap her arms around her children, her love, or her extended family and friends.
My heart breaks for the loss of these two moms and for their families who are clinging to each other while longing to be embraced by their mom. Other relationships will become closer as families come together to love and support one another going forward. I know my mom;s numbers is still in my phone. It is so hard to not be able to pick up the phone and call the person I talked to multiple times every day. Whenever we have something to celebrate, we call our mom. Whenever something goes wrong, we call our mom. Whenever life just plain out hurts, we all our mom. When our mom no longer answers our phone calls, she remains in our hearts and in our heads giving her would of comments on what is going on in our lives.
Today I am praying for each of us who are missing our moms. Whether the loss is just this week, looming because of a terminal diagnosis, or was felt many years ago missing our moms is a forever ache in our hearts that never heals. God bless moms everywhere who are embracing their kiddos to create those forever bonds that last well beyond their last breath.
In Him,
Joyful
