Zooming Through Our Covid Christmas

Funniest truth is how our littles interact with us on devices. Yesterday, we zoomed and were able to watch our grandkids open gifts from us and us opening what they gave us. We are so grateful for being able to remotely come together. Our teen grands are old pros at these connections. Our toddlers have never known a different world. Felix looks to Alexa for his favorite songs and at twenty-two months old he is interactive with family online. We were able to see the joy of his Thomas the Train presents this Christmas as we are holed up in our house with Ron's Covid positive test. He would come over and show us his gifts including us as though we were in the room. This connecting across the country and across the world is the best gift we could have to share each other's lives.

Jenn's three year old grandson was throwing a ball while spending time with her on his tablet. When the ball hit the ipad he stopped and was worried that he hit his Lolly, Jenn's gramma name. She become so real in their connections that he thought he might have possibly hurt her.

This was a different Christmas than we have ever had. In some ways it was the best one yet. Ron and I in separate zones were able to Facetime Tanner in Los Angeles and Natalie and Nate in White Rock. At one point we were eavesdropping listening to Nate describe his new job and T sharing the joy of his new to him, dream car that he never thought he would own. Cam and Britt's kids seemed as excited about their gifts to us as they were for what they received from us. This week I even got to be a part of the process of them making posole' in Tacoma. Glad I took supplies to them when we were up to meet Miss Millie in October.

It occurs to me that we could pout and throw a pity party that our Christmas Covid and losing Hector have changed our holidays. But the truth is that it has been a peaceful time where I can deliver food and drink, presents and Christmas cards to Ron halfway up the stairs. We are also thankful for paper plates and an electric kettle to keep Ron from sharing this virus with me. It has been almost magical to see my husband and best friend sit on the top step to have coffee with me from afar. God is good all the time, all the time God is good. We are grateful for the vaccines that make Covid and inconvenience with isolation and mild symptoms but no fear of life and death as it was a short year ago.

Church services online make it possible to get His word from multiple sources. What a gift to have Lanessa's beautiful voice singing Silent Night right here in our home. We are thankful that we can watch football together today. Currently Ron is on the computer upstairs in bed and I'm on the couch on my laptop downstairs. My shingle shot recovery is causing me to be appreciative of this extra rest even without Covid. No pity party here as we are warm, fed, and have plenty of toilet paper........ no we are not having flu symptoms just thought that was funny to add. Hope you are enjoying this season whatever your circumstances.

In Him,

Joyful
