It will be a hard conversation so should we just wait? Is it courage or cowardly to postpone what needs to be said? Too often we are quick to respond not thoughtful in our responses. Yet if someone needs to hear what you have to share it is better to prayerfully consider your words, your tone, and your timing.
This week we have gotten information gathered and options reviewed to have just that sort of chat with a loved one. We are choosing to provide information not solutions. It is better to let a person arrive at their best case scenario rather than taking the lead. There will certainly be more buy in if they come to the answer with us lovingly encouraging them. Sometimes there is no good result to be had but we just have to choose the least damaging of the choices. Then we need to accept the outcome, forgive and forget and move forward.
We have learned over the years that the person is more valuable than the misstep. Life lessons often come with hard realities. As long as we stay positive in loving the person while disliking the choice, we can save our connections. It is clear that each of us faces these challenging conversations throughout our lives. The longer we postpone them the more messy the situation usually becomes.
So today join me in prayer as Ron and I have a tough phone call and listen more than we speak. God gave us two ears and only one mouth. It is time to be mindful of that today. Lissy's prayer has guided me for decades and reminds me of what I need.
Lord above, comfort me Give me courage, help me see Guide my actions, guide my word Let me know my prayers are heard. Amen
