A Dad Joke is Worth a Thousand Political Posts

 When does a joke become a dad joke? When its apparent.

Sometimes we just need a dumb joke to lighten our day. Whether it is turning on America’s Funniest Home Videos or listening to a comedian, laughter truly is the best medicine. Too often we digest the news media rather than spending time laughing around a board game with family or friends. A good chuckle goes a long way in improving our mood and that spills over to others around us. Wouldn’t you rather your doctor watched a couple silly clips rather than a true crime tape before interacting with you? Of course we need to be educated in what is going on in the world and not put our head in the sand. But don’t we also need to allow ourselves time to include joy in our days? 

I guess I am on this vent because a family member I love continues to post ugly, political posts. Even though her politics align with mine, the ugliness toward the other side makes me want to spew her words from my thoughts. Today I made the decision to snooze her. Now I won’t get to know what is going on with her family and that makes me sad. But I have decided that I need to protect myself from the hatefulness that we allow in judging others and their opinions. Everyone comes to their views with their own experiences. If we are honest we would all admit that there are good and bad on both sides of the aisle. Maybe politicians and people who dwell in political chatter should do like they did in the old days and discuss with a cigar and a good bottle of whiskey. Maybe we all just need to lighten up with a few well placed dad jokes. 

My mom said she was going to make me eggs Benedict if I came home. So I gladly went home for the hollindaise.

Now that is funny. During this election cycle let’s post more cat videos and less political hate. We all love a good cat video.
