Anticipation for the New Year, Yes Please

Anticipation………excitement, waiting eagerly for something you know is going to happen, a nervous expectation. Isn’t it wonderful when we are waiting for a milestone to change our lives? It occurs to me that we all have wonderful things to look forward to in life. This year of 2024 our family will add a new great grandgirl, graduate a grandgirl as well as our daughter and her family beginning a new chapter of life in the northwest. There are also the smaller events that we mark on our calendars to celebrate such as birthdays, anniversaries, and vacations. This year Ronnie B and I are going to Texas in April to see the eclipse and then on to Padre Islands which is a trip we have always wanted to take. What makes this trip even more special is that extended family members are joining us.

Ron and I make a three month calendar to put all the things on that we don’t want to crowd out with doctor appointments or our mundane checklist. We also have a yearly calendar since some events are set in stone early on. It is exciting to know what is coming and how we will get to enjoy life throughout the year. It is exciting to at a glance know what is coming.

It always makes me curious about heaven when I think of how great it is to anticipate. Since heaven is pure perfection will there even be anticipation or will it just be a continuous delight? Will we have a calendar with future events to look forward to? Or will we rest in the presence of what is all around us? My grandma used to say that heaven is to the earth like ourselves to our mirror image. If it is like the here and now is flat comparatively, maybe there will be waiting eagerly up there. That is not for us to know now but to look forward to in the future. One thing I do believe is the theory of gold streets won’t be a thing. Some may think of gold as precious but it just sounds cold and unwelcoming to me. The fact that we will see Jesus face to face and embrace loved ones is what I am most looking forward to.

So mark your calendar and if there aren’t enough items on yours, get busy planning and including others in your plans. After all, this is 2024 not 2020 so it is time to get out and live.

In Him,

Joyful
